Description:
Well, with the semi-chaos surrounding this years UK gathering (We love you Jake), we figured it'd be a good idea to get the dates for this down, early.
(Also, we called it.)
So people, clear your schedules and set your drive to hurrah.
Tasks will be decided closer to the date (Ideas below please, I'm sure there will be plenty to choose from)
Dates subject to change, all terms and conditions apply.

Hopefully. I'm still visiting SF0 every now and then.
Me and ENZero Sock have both done two tasks, but yet to upload. Anyway, I'm looking forward to it!
Well, who knows if I'll be free, but the will is there...
if one were inclined to travel to England... one might be highly tempted to do so at this time... when else would one be likely to meet all the best Brits at once?
It's a little closer to the time now, further organisation needed?
Apart from writing it in really big letters on the 2009 calendars (which is what I'm doing as soon as they're hanging on the wall), what sort of organisation?
Honestly? No idea. But probably something.
I think anyone travelling a fair way probably need to see if they can actually make it, and sort out transport, accomodation etc.
(The dates are saved onto my phone =])
Accomodation.
Can you help me here, Tom...?
If there are any spaces available for free, I'm reserving one.
As for travel, I now know it takes around four and a half hours by car. Not sure if my Mum will be willing to take me (it's a bit further than MK). But I'm sure there'll be a train or something...
By that time my new house should all be sorted, so I suspect I can indeed help you out there :)
Completely stupid idea #1:
Moustache the GY version of Nelson's column.
Hah!
Like we haven't thought of that already ;P
It's pretty danm tall...
There's a door at the bottom and it's hollow...
It's not Nelson at the top anyway; it's Britannia.
Can't believe I'm talking myself into this, but I don't mind orgainising, if I had a rough idea of who was coming, what was planned etc. But I don't mind if anyone else wants to. And despite my looong absence, I'm still up for it.
Current prices round trip from San Francisco to Norwich (which yahoo answers states as the closest airport to Great Yarmouth) are running a healthy $1490 US dollars.
for shame airline industry, for shame!
How does one gain access to a cargo ship?
how long would a cargo ship take? i've always wanted to sail.
About three weeks from the Gulf to Europe.
..are allways much more expensive, see about stansted or heathrow, then get a train or whatnot. Anyway, I haven't forgot about this. But any task suggestions would help. I'm guessing nobody objects to a JTTEOTN I think that was the original plan.
I shall be able to give many tips on the Heathrow to Norwich travel options after tomorrow.
A JTTEOTN sounds good to me.
As for tasks, I'm sure we could do something with this
I might get around to searching for more later...
Minch, if there are any better London-Norwich travel options than the train from Liverpool Street which I imagine I'll be using for part of my journey, let me know...
Also, talking of UK meets (There's so many I'm getting confused now!), what shall we do when you're down here in half term?
Sombrero, I will be taking that very train. But I would image the ride is only enhanced by the 14 hours on plane that precedes it.
14 hours? Ouch.
And there I was thinking that a six hour train journey was bad...
And Tom: I have no idea. I thought I was leaving that to you lot :P
I would like to meet as many players as possible, and I suppose we have about a month to think of what we're actually going to do. It will probably depend on how many people you can gather at the same time etc...
my god, why haven't i gotten in on this discussion.
i've taken a cargo ship three times - twice across the mediterranean and once across the pacific. my friend took one across the atlantic - crossing the atlantic takes about 8 days and will cost you a cool $900 minimum. One way. it's not the cheap way to go. but if you want to get to london cheap, i've got sources.
Oh Ben, you and I have much to talk about. I do so want to go to London cheap. And soon.
bt-store.com
super awesome low costs. especially good one-way, if you wanna just, you know, stay in great yarmoth or something.
Heheh, T-shirt + Fabric pen = An afternoon of careful tracing and money keeping!
Actually you can get shirts printed in Yarmouth for around £4 a go plus the price of a plain t-shirt (£3 from H&M).
I know I haven't been very active recently but I plan to still attend this shindig.
If you get shirts printed, do one for me. :P
We could get a shirt for everyone who attends.
I'd pay you back for mine...
if there are any Kyle Hamiltons out there, wanting to use their crazy deal finding skills, I say round trip to UK from SF for this event would be highly desired, and finding such a deal would result in copious amounts of adoration and gratitude.
Is anyone else getting there by train via Liverpool Street station?
If so, we could try to coordinate journeys, and I'm sure we could find something to keep us occupied on the train...
In the (admittedly unlikely) event that I make it, I will probably be getting a flight to Heathrow/Luton. I hear Heathrow -> Liverpool St. -> GY is the best option?
I believe that's what Minch has done.
Unfortunately that last part isn't direct, it actually goes Liverpool Street -> Norwich -> GY.
But yes, it's probably the best route from London.
You're always gonna go through Norwich for GY really :)
Basically it will take you 15 mins to get into London on the Heathrow Express (45 on the tube), then about 30 mins to cross London, 2 and a half hours to Norwich, 45 mins to Yarmouth.
That's 4 and a half hours from Heathrow to Yarmouth which isn't too bad. There is a way to do it through Kings Cross, Ely, Norwich but I wouldn't reccommend that unless you are flying in from Stansted.
What? There's a Norwich International Airport!
scribbles down info for possible future visits
Oh no! I've just realised that this is the same weekend as the Secret Garden Party...
Crushingly, this may prevent me from attending.
That looks epic....I may need to find my way into that after I turn 21.....in 4 years....
Holy crapballs, this is right around the corner. PLANS, PEOPLE, PLANS
*Looks for cheap train tickets*
I have one idea here, seeing as we didn't end up doing Calvinball last month...
I know I've asked this before, but is anyone else travelling by train through London, and if so, what time are you likely to be changing from one London station to the other?
I want to book these tickets as soon as possible to avoid any problems (and get them cheap), and other people's train times could influence which tickets I book...
I thin me and Lankin are (dependent on how we're going), but I dunno the times yet. When I do, you'll be one of the first to know :)
OK, I have tickets.
If anyone wants to join me, I'm travelling on the 12:30 to Norwich from Liverpool Street on the 24th.
Arrival time in GY should be 15:08...
I won't be able to make the Gathering this year :( I will, however, be reachable by phone should anything mindblowing happen.
Apologies, guys :(
Well, forget it then. I was going to surprise everybody by just showing up unexpectedly. But now that Ben won't be there, forget it.

EDIT: If the Gathering goes on more than 1 day, I can make any days after the 24th (hint @ organizers).
Even if the gathering doesn't officially go on longer than one day (which I expect it will), Great Yarmouth is stuck with me until the Monday afternoon.
So I'm sure something will be happening (another hint @ organisers...)
"Organisers". Who are the organisers? Is it Daryl because I feel like I might be lumbered gifted with the task of organising this.
this man of learning and religion would be very displeased if he was unable to complete his pilgrimage.
you WILL be found.
As far as I'm concerned, "organisers" is GY0.
I've done my bit by getting my train tickets... :P
Although if there's anything I can do from where I am that's helpful, I can try...
Pilgrim: !?
Sombrero: I was told that Adam and Daryl were event hosts...
Ooh, now I see that the event date is, in fact, 24 - 26th. I can two-thirds attend!
I am going to have to do this aren't I, won't Adam still be in SF?
I will sort this out, I did voulenteer.
I may make a new event to sort out who can definatly come, cause this was set up a long time ago.
My advice for those coming down from elsewhere is to sort out travel/accomodation (if needed), and GY0 will plan the events. And I'll probably no doubt have to fund it.
Adam will be back.
Ben will also be back for the latter two days.
You did voulunteer. *nods*
Fund-wise, fund what? We can all help :)
Edit: This is Tom, by the way. Slow internets means signing in and out takes way too long :)
I did wonder when the hell I wrote that. I actually convinced myself I must have written about myself in the third person.
Right Yes, like 3 weeks now. So that I know who is definatly coming, made a new event. Go signup for that if you are definatly coming. Sort out arrangements there.
I'll be there with knobs on, just booked the hotel - I'd also be grateful if you would all lend me 10 minutes of your time to answer a few SF0-related questions for my research...
Many thanks
Got to be Team HQ if we get enough teams turning up
