My gut reaction is no.

If that's the function people wanted they could/should switch to super going where anyone can approve any task and the good ones float to the top. (ideally)

I agree. I like to think that tasks which are approved for sf0 reflect some sort of "vision" that Sean has for the game (at least that's how it's always seemed to me), and I prefer that over a free-for-all where essentially any task can be approved by anyone (one thousand is really not a very high threshold). The free-for-all situation would inevitably lead to horrible game-destroying drama once one admin started doing stuff that a bunch of the others didn't agree with and they started demanding that the malefactor's power be stripped from him. Factions would form, mud would be slung, I say no thank you to any of that.

If we were to democratize task approval I think it would be far better to leverage the existing voting system and have tasks get approved if they get both a minimum number of votes and a minimum average score. That would at least have much less drama potential, and I think we'd get better "quality control" that way too. But like Dan said, other games exist that have that. I'm just as happy having Sean pull the strings here.

Mud slinging sounds like fun to me.

Pretired Tasks that get a lot of favorable comments seem to make it in there most of the time. So I would suggest if there is something you really want to see approved, Promote it, Lobby for it, Run it for Senator!

I think that as much as I love SSI, we have been abandoned. The only way this game will live on is to give some control to players. I hope Relet comes up with a new Era (after I surpass Lincoln of course :D)

However, I would discuss those changes on his campaign trail page. That is where the real changes are happening.

I think the "1000 points or more can approve tasks" is a good start, but it would need to be a bit more balanced. It could be a poll type of function. For instance, if one person that is above the 1000 point threshold, they could vote for it to be approved, and once it gets 3-6 votes, it could be approved. Giving just one person that power might lead to some inappropriate shenanigans. Also, players shouldn't be able to vote for their own tasks.

Also, and this is just me, but I think that the current regulations to be voted in as senator are a bit difficult. With the current amount of activity per day that's happening, 25 votes is kind of obnoxious.
Again, that's just me.

It was easier when there were more then two active players and 5 active lurkers :D

However, if you think there is a flaw in the system, you can always write a task to rectify it.

Bring back the glory of Glasnost! Pass the torch to the younger generations who aren't busy with families yet! We'll sign our souls to follow your ethics and ideas and everything, but we have more time than you (we are so very many) and are willing to work for free or even pay for the privilege!

What if, in order to take some power, a person would have to read certain pieces of critical theory and pass a test or write an essay about it, proving that they can continue to promote the Sean's Situationist, Anti-Capitalist, whateverelseist values?!?!

I think Bex should be in charge of approving new tasks.
