Description:
I'm finishing up work on the shopping carts. We've made shields and we have some good foam weapons. it will be fun. anyway, here's the location i said i'd post 5 days ago.
LOCATION:
The shopping cart derby will be held in the golden gate park bandshell. It is between the DeYoung museum and the nearly remodeled Academy of sciences.
DIRECTIONS/MAP:
The 44 bus line goes right by the bandshell. Otherwise take any of the haight street buses (6/66/71/43/etc.) and walk north into the park from 9th Ave.
The Bandshell (not to be confused with the panhandle band shell) is located right in front of the DeYoung museum: 50 Hagiwara Tea Garden Drive

The band shell provides excellent derby space. As well as nearby back-up location in case something should go awry.

the shopping cart event is coming up on Sunday July 6. i think we should start at 1PM. i'll post the location on the event page towards the end of sunday 6/29
the carts are more or less ready to go. all you have to do is show up. we can figure out teams there. i've been gethering a few supplies to use in shopping cart battles/duels and i'll be gathering more soon

there are a few things that i would like input on
do you have a team name? i will print out signs for you
more competition ideas!! so far we've got:
- joust
-water balloon duel
-100 meter dash
-free for all battle. four carts enter, one cart leaves
we'll have shields (somehow), water balloons, hopefully a large variety of foam weapons
GATHER any materials you can use as harmless weapons. FOAM MATERIALS, NERF guns, water guns, etc
can you help prepare water balloons before the derby?
can you help transport carts? as it is now, i'm going to have to make two trips to get everything to the as of yet undecided location?
bring decoration if you feel the need to decorate your cart.

Some time ago there was interest in organizing a shopping cart race. (or battle??)
Jeremy and I have been collecting stranded and abandoned shopping carts for some time now as well as some materials to spiff them up a bit. We feel that now is the time to start preparing for a shopping cart race. Technically it doesn't have to be a normal race. We can incorporate nerf guns and other foam toys or water guns, etc. etc.
Modifying a cart:
As you can see if you click the youtube link below, any shopping cart can be modified to provide comfortable seating. I will also provide a good amount of padding for teams to install if they wish to do so. I can also provide cupholders and a few other odds and ends.

OK. Discussion.
1) Nothing in May works for me. My weekends in June are OK as long as it's not the first one. July is bad all month unless it's the last weekend. I'm going to be in Reno on the 29th and 30th of July, I could stop off afterwards on my way back down to play that next weekend. August 1 or 2. Those are good San Francisco dates for me. Even if we do the race earlier, I can play up there on that weekend for something else.
2) All of them. We'll plat GTA with shopping carts. I wanna do taxi cab missions.
3) Oh, I am. I've already got my helmet. 
The missus and I are doing a big road trip at the end of June. We might be able to make it then.
i can do anytime in june, other than june 20th.
I work Saturdays (as a general rule) so that means I can do evening preparations but would need the race|battle to be on a Sunday if we're talking day time.

The sooner the better for me. Summer school picks up immediately after june 16th and then i have no life at all until it ends august 6th.
i speak from experience: shopping cart races are AWESOME.
i did this and it was one of the best days of my life. i was a member of the Windy City Rollers Team B, which won the race but had our victory stolen due to shenanigans and then returned to us later in a bizarre ceremony.

Definitely bad for me: May 31 (except late evening), June 28-29, July 11-13, Jul 24-27, Aug 16-23
A few other weekends have brief commitments which can probably be worked around.
I can't do the weekends of May 31st, June 28th or July 12th or 19th. Otherwise, I'm in. August is wide open.
How many people per team?
people per team: i suppose it depends on the format of the race. but i'm guessing we'll want a few (3?) per team so we can take turns pushing carts.

I vote July (and it would have to be the Sunday b/c I work sats).
I have a duel June 14th-15th.... though Sunday the 15th may be possible. A little post duel shopping cart derby. I leave it to my duel opponent...

this event is a month away. i know its far away, but there's much to do and the coming weekends are going to be full of sf0 madness. (for me anyway)
you all need to start forming teams (on your own) and arrange with me to work on carts. if you don't have team and can't join one, message me and and i'll assign you a team.
once teams are formed i'll arrange everything with each team. you'll need to meet up with our cart remodeling team or arrange to transfer a cart so your team can work on its own.

There are a few issues we should figure out
1) date. anytime after 7/1/08 or the weekends of 6/13/08 (friday the 13th!!) 5/30/08 (we'd have to act FAST)
is there a good date for LA-zero and others to come up
2) format. do we want to race/relay/battle/missions or some combination of them.
3) start forming teams and thinking about themes/motifs (if you want to)
