Dear appreciators of fine art,

Please allow the Growing Artist Guild to cordially invite you to an affair to be remembered.

This December the 16th will be a most delightful day at the museum. The Growing Artist Guild will be working with The California Palace of The Legion of Honor Fine Arts Museum to facilitate an afternoon of whimsy intermingling with fine art.

The game Hide-N-Seek will be played starting promptly at 2PM. Punctuality is key as the synchronicity of this game of observation depends on it.

Players are invited to take part in a tea party following their participation in the game. Please bring a lovely tea cup. Flask optional.

As we will be in the lovely surroundings of one of the finest art museums Formal wear is encouraged for the afternoon.

We hope that you will join us for this delightful afternoon of Fine Art and Whimsy. The most up-to-date details of this affair will be available here.

Best Regards,
Herbie Hatman

Where would one find a "frock"?

Point me in the right direction; the traditional dashing Vixen attire must make way for something a bit more feminine this time.

Yay, pretty dresses!!!

frockguybig33144.jpgHoodlums! in formal wear!

The hoodlum of the eighteen-seventies and the eighteen-eighties seldom carried a fire-arm, but depended upon fists, a stout hickory bludgeon, a set of brass or iron knuckles, and sometimes a knife. Usually this was ample armament, for the hoodlums ran in packs and were never known to attack even inoffensive Chinamen unless they vastly outnumbered their victims. They spent their spare time in the dives and dance-halls of the Barbary Coast, and many of them were pimps, or macks...

His most elaborate costume burst upon a startled city during the late eighteen-eighties, when he swaggered about with his hair oiled, puffed, curled at the sides, and parted in the middle...

He was clad in a velvet vest, a black or olive frock coat with a peaked sleeve which rose to his ear, knee-high boots of calfskin, a sombrero, a ruffled white shirt with a low collar, a black string tie, and tight fawn-colored trousers...

To answer your question: they're easy to find.

Yrs truly wishes he could find an accurate foto... but at least this is a frock. 50 points to the individual who shows up in a peaked sleeve, knife, tie, vest and jacket as such. Mr. Hatman is excluded from the offer.

Maybe late, still want tea

Ditch the field hockey game!! What team (and placing) are you playing against/for anyways? I'm ditching because we lost our battle for second place. And third just doesn't have a nice ring to it. Oh, and it's my 21st birthday the night before...

We wish you the happiest of birthdays, Vixen.

Unfortunately this weekend I'll be scaling insanely steep cliffs, rescuing my true love from danger, battling giants and man-eating rats with my bare hands, fencing dangerous Spaniards who repeat themselves incessantly, and generally saving humanity from evil plots.

Is there any draw to this affair of yours besides the tea?

Formal Wear and Reposting...
posted by Herbie Hatman on December 14th, 2007 12:58 AM

Formal wear is certainly up to interpretation. I trust the judgment of the players on this. If you have any doubt, then I suggest asking a trusted friend or referring to an etiquette book. I am happy to answer any personal correspondences.

Please feel free to repost this event as it is posted here.

Avant Gamer? Aw... shucks. You say the sweetest things.

(Bring a Tea Cup).
Best,

I apologize to any new folks I might have been offended by my questioning of whether or not some of the attendees' profiles were real or not.

Now that I know you are real, come with me and have some tea!

On another note, will it be quite cold on Sunday?

I thought about driving up there just for this, but going to bed way too late and the warm comforting pull of staying in bed without any clothes on was a siren call I could not ignore.

How'd it go, those of us who were unable to attend want reports from the field.
