Alright, I suppose now is as good a time as any.
I'm in some trouble. I've done a couple of bad things. I'm going to need to take some time and collect my thoughts, but for now, the only background you need is that people might be dead because of me- and if I don't get over the U.S/Canada border, a lot more will die. That's a certainty.
I need to get to Maine- specifically, Bangor. The only transportation I could get my hands on is a beat-up old Soviet fighter jet. The registration says it's an LA-11, whatever that is. I killed the owner with his own crowbar, but he's something else, now. The fighter's operational range is well enough to get me to Bangor, I'm just in the process of getting my hands on the fuel.
The trouble is that by now, the U.S Navy (and probably a European Union task force) are going to be after me. If- big if- I can get to Bangor, or even inside the Maine border first, then I can pull this off, no one will be the wiser, and I'll tell the whole story over drinks. If not, then I can kiss my ass goodbye. If that should happen, you might want to get in touch with your loved ones.
I've been listening in on the Navy's chatter, and it looks like they're scrambling a pair of fighters from Nantucket Island. I need to know if this is going to work before I take off-
If I leave Halifax International Airport going 600 km/h at 3:20 PM Atlantic Standard Time, on a straight course heading for Bangor International Airport, and they leave Nantucket Memorial Airport going 1000 km/h at 3:30 PM Atlantic Standard Time, assuming a standard operational range of 35 km for the AIM-9 Sidewinders they're carrying, what's the earliest time at which they can engage me? Assume that they'll open fire as soon as possible.
I am kidding, of course.
I've been genuinely waiting for an answer for ___________ days, I feel like this dang bear owes us an answer.
Look at him, guys.
He's laughing at us.
Lincoln's a bear? Lincoln's not a bear.
Is Lincoln a bear?
I've calculated this equation in a number of different ways, but it boils down to there just being too many variables.
The most obvious is evasive maneuvers.
But assuming nobody does any evasive maneuvers, and assuming you stay your course, knowing that you'll be shot down before you reach Bangor, you'll be shot down somewhere between 3:52 and 3:57 depending on what intercept course they choose to take. If they try to go to where you were going, and come at you head first, that would give you the most time (3:57, or 37 minutes of flight time) before being shot from the sky.
But if the Navy tries to intercept you on your current trajectory (which they probably can with their fancy on-board computers), they can get their Sidewinders into the side of your LA-11 quicker, and you can expect to be on fire at 3:52.
But here's the clincher: Just set your old Russian jet down at Eastport Municipal Airport, which is 150km closer to Halifax and you should be able to put down at about 3:49, and get off of the runway and into some ground cover in the six minutes before the Navy knows where you went down and what happened. You may have to kill some witnesses on the ground or run very fast away from the airport, but you should make it.
a.) Where the hell is everyone?
b.) How can we make this site not feel like a scary abandoned amusement park?
I'm still here, it just happens that the two tasks on which I'm focusing happen to involve running a Shadowrun campaign and writing a novel, so my tasking output has dropped off somewhat. Can't speak for everyone else, though.
As for the second question, I have no idea what you're talking about.
No idea.
No idea at all.
Ask me any question.
I will answer it.
