Events / JOURNEY TO THE END OF THE NIGHT - CHICAGO
When:April 19th, 2008 @ 7:00pm

Where:
Wicker Park [Damen at LeMoyne]
1500 n damen, chicago, il
Enrollment
90/200
Organizer:
Dax Tran-Caffee
Description:
The city spreads out before you. Rushing from point to point, lit by the slow strobe of fluorescent buses and dark streets. Stumbling into situations for a stranger's signature. Fleeing unknown pursuers, breathing hard, admiring the landscape and the multitude of worlds hidden in it.
For one night, drop your relations, your work and leisure activities, and all your usual motives for movement and action, and let yourself be drawn by the attractions of the chase and the encounters you find there.
A pursuit across Chicago in 6 parts. No skates, no bikes, no cars, just your two feet and the train. Bring some water, possibly a camera, and comfortable shoes - leave everything else at home.

This is something that goes onto my ever-growing "list of things I hope someone organises again when my earning enough money for an international flight becomes feasible or someone organises a little closer to home".
We need one of these across the pond now - London, anyone?
JJason, if I manage to figure out my schedule such that I'm able to go, I'll give you a lift - provided some friendly CG0 type is willing to offer crash space.
And we really do need to make the MPLS version materialize at some point.
Haberley: It would strictly be the second JTTEOTN London, because the first one took place AAAAGES ago.
Unfortunately, I don't *actually* know what it is.
Journey San Francisco, June 17, 2006
Journey Brooklyn, September 16, 2006
Journey Manhattan, September 22nd, 2006
Journey London, May 11, 2007
Journey San Francisco, June 23, 2007
I believe it's in the works.
We've had hints dropped at us.
Maybe if I sign up, it will give me special cheap plane ticket finding powers!
Chicago, here I come!
The amount of events I would have come to if that were true for international tickets...
I'm holding out for the next Journey London!
Enjoy!
Well I'll be there in spirit anyway.
My next appearance, however, will probably also be London.
You all will be sure to let us in the US know when London is going down, right? I'm itching to travel.
LONDON?
Well my being involved in that is actually feasible! Yay!
I'll leave it to somebody slightly better known (and more in the know as to what this entails) to sort out JTTEOTN London, but I'm there once you say when and where!

You know we'll all hold you to that right?
Dax + London = Awesome.
Damn the UK needs more events.
The UK has Blast Theory. No more complaining.
whether by plane, train, or saab, you will see me in chicago on the 19th.
I plan to make every attempt to be there. My plea is the same as the JJason's, anyone in MN with a big car?
don't forget that even if you don't win, running in front of cars to avoid chasers and hitchhiking (public transit-ness however questionable) will gain you amazing amounts of cred....yay for more journeys!
p.s. @ lara.... umm.... didn't see that comment! go for the saab.
what ever happened to the SF event that was supposed to mark the beginning of insatiability?
maybe i was mistaken. i thought there was going to be another journey to the end of the night or something like it.
Yeah, there was going to be an event other than the party.
Ticket bought, couch secured, and itchin' to travel!!
You're awesome, Kristina! I can't wait to see you!
Re: PRANK MONKEY - Maybe you're thinking of the Asphaltic Intersection:
"Insatiability brought new features and erupted into the universe with a spectacular event known as The Asphaltic Intersection. Television coverage of the Intersection caused rapid spreading of the game and an end to the bloodshed in Fresno."
To the best of my knowledge that only existed on the wiki and is as fictional as the mass sutro tower weddings and the death of Mentok the Munificent.
Oooooh! I really want to come to this!
United miles needed for free ticket: 25,000.
Miles accrued under my account: 25,523.
Free tickets are helpful :)
this sounds so FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!
yayayayayyayaayyaayyayayayayayayyaaya!
Myrna:
Feel free to bring as many SLØ players as you can muster! [I need more fodder for the indefatigable CGØ chasing team]
And let us know if you need accommodations.
Fodder? Fodder!?! Are you suggesting Saint Louis Zeros are fodder?
Fodder, pish. I'm setting up nets with pulleys to capture the chasers for that.
Oh my... nets.
This is getting fun.
It's all fun and games till you realize I'm seriously going to have trapped nets on the streets....
Unfortunately the route and checkpoints will be kept secret until 7PM on April 19th. I hope you can set up your traps on the run.
Maybe Calyx'll just set up enough traps all over Chicago to be sure that wherever the checkpoints end up, there will be plenty of traps.
This is starting to become an excellent idea! I can't wait for the added level of dodging traps in addition to chasers and cars.
If I do not make it out to this someone has to eat a pizza pot pie while thinking of me!
i will. in fact, i may have three.
I had so much fun passing out flyers for Journey at Critical Mass last night with this handy new handlebar postcard rack. Get yours today for three easy installments of $9.95.
One gentleman rhuminated on the possibility of an all-bike Journey To The End Of The Night... which may rival Rollerball for the most dangerous hypothetical game in the world.
And while I'm posting pictures... here's the new CGØ flag - I hope it suits.
I've got a commercial T-Shirt press and transfer paper, someone get me some material and a stick!
ah yes, I remember the conversation.
We need branding. I might get round to making the website at some point in the future.
Dax: That's one hell of a hot jacket :)
We can bring friends, right? I want to bring along my couch surfing buddy.
I came to study in chicago thinking that the city life would be amazing and exhilerating, only to find out that practically everything closed at 9. lol.
SO glad that I found this! ^__^ it's gonna be a blast!~
I sprained my stoopid ankle and need everyone to heal it with their minds so I can come play!
I'm thinking healing thoughts, Myrna, and I'm hoping it feels better like, now!
I think it's called telepsychoregeneration, and I'm doing it now...
Hm, you require superpowers huh?
Does that mean that if you play, it's going to be a We Are Not Alone completion?
In any case, good luck.
Hey it feels a little better this morning... spooky!
:: continues to focus mental energies on ankle regeneration ::
::continues to wiggle fingers at screen while thinking 'healing'"
Excellent work. We shall have you chase-able in no time.
Am I crazy, but wasn't there a cripple at Journey Glasnost? I ran into her outside of Coit Tower - she had a red ribbon on and I spooked. But she reassured me that she wasn't going to chase me, what with her crutches. I was, and am, thoroughly confused. But I'm still not ruling out the viability of a slow-moving runner... I would really like to know how far she made it, if anyone else caught sight of her...
We could just put everyone on crutches!
I think Walgreens rents them by the day...
Yes. Yes, everyone on crutches!
And the chasers will push people over instead of tagging them.
The #1 Runner and #1 Chaser Trophies are finished! They will be as such:
Who will take them? We will find out soon enough...
fly on winged feet
chaser go chase runner run
moon at both your heels
Yay, Dax!
And the awards for the other best chasers and runners are being made even as we speak...erm...type. :)
I'm so excited to meet you all this weekend!
I demand more haikus from Colonel Mustard!
that colonel's been slacking off
(would you guys join in?)
Zer0gee: Post'em up when they're done, I'm sure people would like to see what they're gett'n!
I never once thought
of myself as a poet
but hey, it could be.
So I checked the weather forecast for Chicago and it said that from Thursday to Saturday, there will be a 40-50% chance of rain.
How will that affect the game? Rain gear?
Current forecast for Saturday is overcast and rain during the day, yielding to cloud breaks and some passing afternoon sun. East/northeast winds 10-22 m.p.h. Daytime High: 58 Low: 43
The game will play in rain or shine. At this point, it looks like we'll be playing with dry skies and wet streets. Wear warm clothes, and pack a raincoat - you'll be outside for a long time.
rainy chicago
you make the chasers tough;
runners slippery
I just got here to post the weather, but I've been beat to it.
Still really fucking excited about this whole thing. I'm using this event to talk people into joining SF0, and I already acquired two. As for people I think are coming due to invites, I can count 6, and another 3 or 4 indefinites.
Do you have a team name for your crew, Animus?
And I hope you're selecting people that you can outrun...
Medals for the top-ranking chasers and the runners with full checkpoint sheets are finished! They look like this:
Chasers
Runners
And I hope you're selecting people that you can outrun...
And if not, then if they get caught you might be in real trouble.
BONUS-Checkpoint medallions, made with the help of Andrea and her Laser Cutter:
Time to start the drive
The Journey is Tommorow
So very excited
be ready for rain
but wear your winged sandals.
the day approaches!
Beware of loose nets
Run with wild abandon
Glory is yours soon
Journey to the End
of the Night - Prepare to be
Annihilated
Chasers at your heels
Your legs pumping like pistons
Gotta outrun them
I'm praying someone brings a video camera to this, for bonus Cloverfield-style footage...
You could be that cloverfield videographer. Can you bring a camera?
Several scattered showers, possibly a t-storm, primarily a.m. Many rain-free hours. Extensive cloudiness, mild. East winds shift west- southwest 5-14 m.p.h.
High:70 Low: 51
Oh, believe me me, my camera and I will be there. But it's a crappy point-and-shoot, so I was thinking to use it primarily for pictures, so that the battery doesn't die.
Also, I have a sneaking suspicion that the flash might usefully illuminate chasers lying in wait...
I brought an earthquake with me from California!!! The night I get into Chicago, a 5.3 earthquake hits. The first earthquake of that magnitude in 40 years. Sometimes I feel like being a Californian jinxes the people around me. And I thought that I got away from the earthquakes. (I live in the Bay Area but I'm totally earthquake phobic. Probably not the best place to live..). At least I also brought the warm weather.
Anyways, I have a digital video camera, charged and ready for action. There's even night vision!!
That warm weather that you brought smells of storm.
Watch out, everyone.
I am envious of your flags & prizes.
Also your earthquakes and thunder storms.
*sigh*
The morning sun rose
No mercy is found today
Pray for your return
Dax and Fellow Organizers,
This looks so splendid. Excellent job creating excitement. I look forward to hearing about how it goes.
Earthquakes and Thunderstorms,
Herbie
I have no doubt this is going to be fantastic. Wish I were there.
Cheers from all of us at the morning brunch!

K with a K, if you can figure out how to ditch the earthquakes, you'll be doing me a real solid.
Special thanks to Dax and everyone I met for a most splendid Journey to the End of the Night- into the morning! And thanks to Gremlin or sharing her birthday with us. Truly wonderful. Now: this pilgrim is tired of chasing away cops! HA!
ps. pictures are coming forthwith! just as soon as I get home from Chicago...
The stories I heard at the afterparty were so brilliant and exciting, it was almost like I was there! I had a great time meeting everyone as well (or in some cases, re-meeting people I played Mafia with 6 years ago, or went to high school with but did not remember at all... crazy!).
Here's to more CG0 events in the future!
Yay for Myrna's Mended Ankle! Does it still tickle?
I am so tired right now. If feel better by a week, I will consider myself lucky. Tired and awesome.
Oh man, I want too. I want too super bad. Don't suppose I could hitch a ride with any MN0 types?
